Year 8’s through to the next round of the County Cup with a superb victory over Brighton Aldridge Community Academy.
Thursday 04 November 2021
Our year 8 students travelled to Brighton on Wednesday in their first fixture in the county cup to play Brighton Aldridge Community Academy. The game started positively for Ark, with Charlie Jones, Joe Malpass and Kurtis Jackson getting the better of the BACA midfield and looked dangerous going forward. The Ark defence also looked comfortable with the addition of Zane Wickens to strengthen up the back 4 with some much needed strength and speed. Ark came close to scoring on a few occasions with Jac Waite and Cody Syrett causing problems. Until Kirill Gregorjevs got the ball on the right wing, put it on to his trusted left foot and played a pin point through ball to Charlie Jones who ran through and slotted calmly in to the bottom corner to put us 1-0 up. After our goal, BACA raised their performance and came close to equalising but Frayzer Goldberg pulled off a fantastic save to see us go in to the break 1-0 up.
In the second half, Ark Alexandra found themselves 2-0 up within a minute. This time, Jones played through Gregorjevs, who rounds the goalkeeper and slots in to an empty net. The goals kept coming for Ark Alexandra, Gregorjevs scored his second with a lofted free kick that just beats the keeper to make it 3-0. And quickly after, the strong Oliver Russell turned and volleyed home in to the bottom corner after BACA failed to clear the ball. After some great football from Ark, the ever present Gregorjevs found himself in the box, beating two players and smashes a shot in to the top far corner for his 3rd and to make it 5-0. Understandably, Ark started to relax, and consequently conceded a sloppy consolation goal which was disappointing for the team. However in the last minute, Charlie Jones who caused problems all game, played through Oliver Russell, who fought off the defender, ran through on goal and hits it in to the top left corner to make the game end 6-1. A fantastic performance by Ark Alexandra year 8’s, looking strong as they go through to the next round of the county cup. Man of the match goes to Charlie Jones but special shout out to Harry Sitch, Louie Jones, Teddie Self, Alessio Pola and George Hardy who also contributed to an outstanding team performance, as well as the players mentioned above.
