Yesterday, members of Ark Alexandra’s Combined Cadet Force (CCF) staff attended the prestigious Combat Stress Extra Mile Awards in London, held at the historic In & Out (Naval and Military) Club in St James’s Square. The event brought together individuals and groups from across the country to celebrate their outstanding fundraising achievements in support of Combat Stress, a charity dedicated to supporting veterans’ mental health.
The awards ceremony recognised a diverse range of contributors, from veterans and corporate supporters to Chelsea Pensioners and former service personnel who have themselves been helped by the charity. Each award highlighted the commitment, generosity, and determination of those who go the extra mile to raise vital funds.
This year, Ark Alexandra’s cadet unit received a remarkable honour: they were awarded Cadet Unit of the Year for 2025. This recognition follows an exceptional year of effort, during which the cadets raised over £15,000 through their annual “March in March” challenge. Their achievement is particularly noteworthy given that the 43 cadets are based in Hastings, an area officially recognised as experiencing significant deprivation. Despite this, the cadets continue to demonstrate resilience, dedication, and a strong community spirit.
For the past four years, the unit has consistently ranked within the top three fundraising organisations not only just for cadet units for Combat Stress. Impressively, they are once again near the top of the fundraising league table ahead of the 2026 challenge.
The cadets will complete this year’s March in March on 28th March, and preparations are already well underway. They are aiming to secure substantial sponsorship once again to continue their support for Combat Stress and the vital work the charity does for veterans across the UK.
This award is a testament not only to the cadets’ perseverance but also to the staff, families, and community members who support them. It is an achievement the entire school community can be immensely proud of.
