Sport

Sport plays a central part in life at our Academy, helping our pupils to stay fit and healthy.

Ark Alexandra Academy has a fantastic sports programme, ranging from our curriculum lessons to extra-curricular clubs, external club links and competitive fixtures and events.

It is our belief, that all students should be able to access sport, both recreationally and at elite level.

Within all aspects of Sport and Physical Education at the Academy, we aim to encourage students to experience and learn a range of skills and participate in a variety of different sports and activities. Fundamentally we want students to enjoy physical activity and understand its range of benefits, so that they continue to be active when they leave us. Alongside this, we strive to provide students with a passion for sport, to excel.

In curriculum PE lessons, students will develop their physical and social skills, so they have the inner confidence, faith and self-belief to engage in physical activity as a lifestyle choice as either a recreational participant, a performer or an elite athlete. This choice will enable students to live a healthy active lifestyle which will enable them to enjoy life in all their endeavours.

We extend our sporting offer through our examination courses in PE. These courses enable students to learn the skills, concepts and theories needed to achieve excellence in their academic results allowing them to pursue a career in PE and Sport. Within GCSE Pe and CNAT Sports Science, students are challenged both physically and intellectually. Students dive deep into physiological, psychological, and social-cultural elements.

There are hurdles to overcome in Sport, and in life. Through our sports provisions, students will learn to be resilient and understand how to overcome challenges, striving to develop skills and overcome adversity.

Alongside our in-class provision, we also offer a range of extra-curricular activities. Our sites boast a range of high-quality sports facilities, including our Olympic-sized Athletics Track, Specialist Gymnastics halls, Badminton, Basketball and Netball courts, as well as multiple fields for Football, Cricket and Rugby. We have a team of highly competent and qualified staff, many of whom have competed Nationally and Internationally in their respective sports. Students have the opportunity to be part of our award-winning sports teams, many of which have achieved County, Regional and National Success. Students participate in local and county league events, as well as multiple Ark Sport Championships, in a range of activities including Football, Netball, Basketball, Athletics, Gymnastics, Cricket, Rugby, Badminton, Gymnastics and Trampolining. There are also performance opportunities in aesthetic activities such as dance and gymnastics, as well as opportunities for leadership in sport. Many of our extra-curricular clubs are directly linked to external clubs, for example, Hastings Athletic Club, HY Youth, Hastings & Bexhill Rugby Club, Angels Netball, ACROMAX Gymnastics Club and Performance Group, Robertsbridge & Crowhurst Park Cricket Clubs, and many more.

In addition to the opportunities outlined, our elite athletes also have the chance to be selected for one of the Ark Sport Scholars Programmes. These programmes offer successful students, elite-level training in their chosen discipline (currently athletics, basketball or football), match and competition opportunities and a weekend residential. The events, often held in London, bring together the best performers across the Ark network.

We hope that the experiences students have during their time with us, will open doors, build lifelong memories, and raise student aspirations.
