Head of Design & Technology teacher Miss Hawes was invited to The House of Lords with two outstanding students who participated in the Year 10 STEM Enrichment Programme to collect awards that Ark Alexandra won for The Most Engaged School in the programme.
Summer and Blake won awards for 'The Most Engaged Students' and Miss Hawes was one of two teachers who achieved an award for 'The Most Engaged Teacher' in the programme.
During the event we had a chance to reflect on the strengths of the programme, which skills students felt they had developed as well as suggesting future enhancements to the programme. We also got the chance to meet some of the mentors from industry who worked with our school.
Our students were such a credit to us - Summer spoke with confidence and sincerity in front of the other guests regarding how the programme had positively impacted her and Blake managed to impress one of the mentors so much that she offered him an apprenticeship at her IT company!
A great day was had by all, and I am pleased to say that The Generating Genius Charity are keen to continue their work with our school next year as they said they were very impressed with the engagement of our students and staff.
Thanks must also go to Miss Shepherd (our wonderful D&T technician) who accompanied the trip and who helped with the successful delivery of the STEM programme in our school.
We can't wait until next year when we can introduce the programme to a new group of year 10 students!
