Ark Alexandra Sixth Form are extremely proud to announce that we have four students who have been awarded prestigious and very generous bursaries from Ark towards university. The students are: Marco Duraku, Toby Hubble-Darkes, Talar Kafroshi, Isabel McKinnon, and Sajaa Osman. These bursaries will be awarded throughout their academic journey at university, and range from covering fees to accommodation. Such bursaries are one of the unique things about attending our sixth form and show the level of support Ark provides even after our students leave us.
Isabel states: “Receiving the Reuben bursary has meant so much to me personally as it has relieved the financial burdens I would have faced at university. Now I can make my education and degree my utmost priority as opposed to taking time away from my degree to work part-time. I can’t thank Ark and the charities enough.” Isabel is hoping to read Politics and Sociology at the University of Manchester. Marco cheerfully said: “"I am delighted about receiving this bursary. It has given me the opportunity to pursue my goals without having to worry about my financial situation and gave me a possibility I never thought I would get to enjoy." Marco is hopefully going to read Physics at Imperial this autumn. Toby also added: “I am very honoured to be awarded this bursary it feels me with great pride that Ark believe in me to do great things for the future.” Toby, who one day hopes to come back and be a teacher at Ark Alexandra, is off to read Football Coaching and Performance Management at the University of South Wales.
Sajaa said: “The bursary allows the continuation of a dream to pursue my passion, literature, which is a rare thing for people from disadvantaged backgrounds whose education is shrouded in notions of future security. The bursary is not just a symbol of someone's belief in my abilities, but it is a symbol of hope. It is an act that is one step closer to closing educational disparities that disenable students like me to pursue higher education, thus the support means a lot. Overall, the bursary eases the stress of the financial struggle I will inevitably face.”
Talar commented: “Through receiving the urbanest bursary, it has relieved the stress of worrying about financial means when I go to university. I’m grateful as without this opportunity, I would not be able to focus merely on my studies and work towards my future goals.”
