Ark Alexandra’s Year 7 students were joined for their assembly by Colin Darbyshire from Surfers Against Sewage, who spoke about the damage caused by single-use plastic and the practical steps we can all take to reduce our use.
The assembly provided an opportunity for our new Year 7 students to learn about the academy’s ongoing work to protect the local environment and become involved in the wider community.
Colin first joined Ark Alexandra for a whole-school assembly last year, when the academy launched its first community beach clean in February in partnership with Surfers Against Sewage and the Clean Water Action Group.
During this latest assembly, Colin spoke about the impact of plastic pollution on our planet and encouraged students to think about the choices they can make to reduce plastic use. He also invited students to take part in the academy’s upcoming community beach clean on Sunday 13th September.
Ark Alexandra has signed up to the Plastic Free Schools programme and looks forward to continuing its partnership with Surfers Against Sewage over the coming year, giving students further opportunities to take positive action for their environment and local community.
