Compass Students Get a First-Hand Look at Infrastructure Careers with Balfour Beatty
As part of their ongoing programme with Rugby Works, Compass students visited Balfour Beatty in Ringmer for an inspiring and highly informative experience. The visit offered an in-depth look into the operations of one of the UK’s leading infrastructure companies, while showcasing the wide variety of career routes available within the sector.
Students engaged in a dynamic mix of presentations and hands-on activities throughout the day. Highlights included the chance to fly drones used for major construction and maintenance projects, observe road management teams in action, and explore the cutting-edge technologies that support large-scale infrastructure work across the region.
The visit also opened up valuable discussions around work experience placements, future training opportunities, and career pathways that could lead to long-term employment. A guided tour of the depot and main office provided insight into the many roles that keep such a large organisation running effectively, while giving students the opportunity to meet staff and ask questions about their day-to-day responsibilities.
The trip proved to be a great success, equipping students with practical knowledge, industry insight, and renewed enthusiasm for pursuing future careers in infrastructure. Many expressed excitement about continuing the programme and look forward to upcoming visits to other partner companies.
