Last week six of our sixth formers completed their expedition towards their Gold Duke of Edinburgh. They were lucky that the rain stayed at bay unlike their practise trip. The sun shone, but it was chilly. The terrain is tricky, and it ensured that the team worked together prior to getting to Dartmoor to ensure that their route cards, and map reading skills were thorough. A few extra hills were climbed in the days they were there, but they managed to keep their spirits up knowing each mile was a mile closer to the finish. They all passed this part and are looking forward to signing off the other sections to complete this prestigious award. One big motivation to them was knowing when it is all done, they will be able to go to Buckingham Palace to celebrate, only 11% of students in the country start the programme and not all of them complete it. A thank you must go as well to Mr Burchell and Miss Clark who camped out with the students and supported them during their expedition.
If your child is interested in taking part in Duke of Edinburgh Bronze or Silver and is in year 9 or 10, there is a meeting on 24th October 2024 at 17.30-18.30 in the Main Hall at the William Parker Campus.
