A group of talented runners from Ark Alexandra Academy enjoyed an incredible sporting experience on Sunday as they took part in the prestigious TCS London Mini Marathon.
Athletes Aiden, Benji, Izabella, Spencer and Matilda, selected for their performance and commitment this year as part of the school’s athletics teams, represented the academy with pride, joining an extraordinary field of 19,640 school-aged participants completing the 2.6km course through the streets of London.
The event atmosphere was electric, with warm-ups led by fitness coach and motivational speaker Joe Wicks, adding to the excitement of the day. Students described the experience as unforgettable, with several stating it was “the best day I have ever had.”
Among our allocated wave of 450 runners, Benji delivered an outstanding performance, finishing first in his group in an impressive time of 9:06.
The TCS London Mini Marathon forms part of a highly competitive national application process. Schools must apply for a limited allocation of places each year, with entry awarded through a selection process run by the organisers. The event is designed to encourage mass participation, inspire young people to engage in sport, and give students the opportunity to experience running on an iconic London course.
Following the event, the school received numerous messages from parents expressing their gratitude for the opportunity, describing it as a “once in a lifetime experience” for their children.
Staff have confirmed they will look to apply again next year, continuing to provide students with opportunities to take part in this inspiring national event.
