The culmination of our competitive Athletics year saw Secondary Schools’ from across Hastings and Rother descend upon the Ark Alexandra Athletics Track for the annual Town Sports Event.
With the weather set fair – if a little windy - 61 students from years 7-10 battled to bring home Team and Year Group titles as well as the overall title of Area Champions… and we did it in style!
Many of our students have represented us throughout the season, competing in the Ark Championships and the English Schools Track and Field Cup. Their dedication and the experienced they have gained from competing against students from across the Region stood them in good stead today. For our Year 10 students, it was their last chance to represent the Academy in Athletics and the sense of anticipation was clear.
The day saw some stunning performances from our students, with medals and PB’s coming in thick and fast. Race after race, jump after jump and throw after throw, our students showed excellence and determination. Even when things didn’t quite go to plan, their resilience was amazing. As a result, every team finished in First Place, and we took the coveted title of Champions.
Notable performances came from: Gugu Sibanda, Joey Saville and Ida-May Pocock in Year 7, Talulla MacIntyre, Lilly Stoneman and Leo Ward in year 8, Adria Da Silva, Daisy Welch, Emily Ledsham and Harvey Jones in Year 9, and Ella Burt, Emmie Hodgson, Connor Malcom and Fin Hodges in Year 10.
It has been an amazing Summer of Athletics, and we would like to thank the students and their parents and carers for all their support and commitment. The students who have represented us have not only been an absolute credit, but an absolute delight.
