Year 10 Helenswood students have recently taken part in a wide range of careers-related trips, giving them valuable insight into future education and employment opportunities across multiple sectors.
Students visited Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS), SOAS University of London, Robertsbridge farms (Green Oak and Strawberry Hill Farm), and the University of Sussex, experiencing first-hand what a variety of career pathways can offer.
At Brighton and Sussex Medical School, students observed basic clinical skills being performed and gained a unique introduction to the medical profession. Staff at BSMS praised the students for their enthusiasm and engagement, commenting on how much they enjoyed working with them throughout the visit.
During their trip to SOAS University of London, students took part in subject taster sessions in Law, Global Liberal Arts, Economics, Chinese and Finance. This diverse programme showcased the breadth of opportunities available within higher education. Despite a long coach journey, staff at SOAS were extremely complimentary about the students’ participation, thoughtful questions and sustained enthusiasm throughout the day.
The visit to Green Oak and Strawberry Hill Farm in Robertsbridge continued Ark Alexandra Academy’s strong partnership with both farms. This experience was particularly valuable for students interested in farming and land-based careers. Students learned about biodynamic farming practices, the varied roles of farmers and growers, the importance of animals within the farming ecosystem, and how farms are maintained for wildlife and environmental regeneration. Both farms hosted engaging and informative days filled with hands-on activities.
In addition, the school continues to work closely with the University of Sussex as part of the Inspire 3 programme, which offers students opportunities such as STEM, Social Sciences and Creative Arts taster days. This week, a group of 15 students attended the University’s Winter Lecture, where their meaningful interactions and engagement were reported to be very well received.
These trips have provided students with invaluable experiences, helping them to broaden their aspirations, explore future pathways and make informed decisions about their next steps.
