Our second Spring Tide Beach Clean took place on Sunday 14 September, bringing together more than 50 volunteers to help tackle litter along Hastings’ coastline.

Meeting at Pelham Place, we split into two groups, with one team heading towards Rock-a-Nore and the other towards Hastings Pier. Together, we collected an incredible 50kg of rubbish, around 1kg for every volunteer who took part!

We were delighted to be joined by Mayor of Hastings, Councillor Warne, and Chris from the Hastings Kelp Project at Hastings Aquarium, alongside Colin Darbyshire from Surfers Against Sewage and Rebecca Sinker from the Clean Water Action Group.

The Beach Clean events are organised by Ark Alexandra’s Carol Sales, working in collaboration with Colin and Rebecca, and we are grateful to everyone who gave their time to support this community event.

Our Beach Clean will now become a twice-yearly event, giving our students, staff and wider community regular opportunities to come together and care for our local coastline.

This academic year will also see Ark Alexandra working with Surfers Against Sewage to develop our engagement in the Plastic Free Schools programme, creating further opportunities for our students to take positive environmental action.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, a brilliant community effort!
