Ark Alexandra Academy's girls' cricket team produced an impressive display of teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship in a mixed Year 7–10 fixture against Claverham on Wednesday 24 June.
Captained by Isla, Ark Alexandra won the toss and elected to field first. The team delivered a disciplined bowling performance to restrict a strong Claverham side to 267 runs.
Alyssa led the attack superbly, conceding just three runs and taking a wicket. Gabija was equally economical, also giving away only three runs in her over, while Isla claimed two wickets. Esther and Athena each added a wicket to complete an excellent all-round bowling display.
In response, Ark Alexandra faced a challenging target and some fierce bowling from Claverham, including a Sussex Pathway player. Openers Esther and Athena showed great composure against the quick bowling, getting the innings underway with confidence and determination.
Gabija and Aisha helped rebuild the innings before Alyssa and Kitty added valuable runs while keeping wickets intact. Ivy and Isla continued the momentum before Isabelle and Isla finished strongly, scoring 21 runs in the final two overs while losing just one wicket.
Although Ark Alexandra finished on 226 runs, the match was played in an excellent spirit and showcased the team's determination, skill and support for one another throughout.
Due to the heatwave conditions, the match was played in the blue sports hall, ensuring students remained safe and comfortable while still enjoying a highly competitive game of cricket.
The players represented the academy brilliantly and demonstrated exactly what school sport is all about: teamwork, respect and enjoyment.
