“Never Again” Brings Maya Angelou’s Poem to Life on the White Rock Stage
Monday evening at the White Rock Theatre was electric, buzzing with the energy of hundreds of Primary and Secondary students, as the annual Time 2 Dance Festival got underway. This year’s overarching theme, “The Past,” inspired each school to present their own unique interpretation.
Ark Alexandra students closed the night with a stunning performance inspired by Maya Angelou’s poem The Caged Bird. Their piece, entitled “Never Again,” explored the history of enslaved peoples, delivering a powerful and moving statement.
Audience members offered glowing feedback, praising the performance for its captivating choreography, emotive storytelling, and impressive skill.
Head of Dance Ms Vanner commented on the students’ dedication, saying, “These young performers showed maturity, creativity, and professionalism beyond their years. They truly brought the theme of ‘The Past’ to life.”
