Students from Ark Alexandra Academy enjoyed an educational adventure as part of their Drop Down Day 3 curriculum trip, visiting a range of cultural and historical destinations across Hastings Old Town.
The day began at the Hastings Contemporary Gallery, where students explored four exhibition spaces. Many were especially fascinated by the striking works featured in the Isabel Rock exhibitions, sparking curiosity, creativity and thoughtful discussion.
Students then rotated around three further locations, each offering a unique learning experience. At the Fishermen’s Museum and Shipwreck Museum, they discovered the rich maritime heritage of the local area, learning about the lives of fishermen, historic boats, and dramatic shipwreck stories from the Sussex coast.
A highlight of the day was their visit to the RNLI station. This is the school’s chosen charity for Aqua House, where students took part in two workshops exploring both onshore and offshore rescues. They learned how lifeboat crews respond to emergencies and the vital role the RNLI plays in saving lives at sea.
The trip concluded at the Electric Palace Cinema, where students enjoyed lunch together in front of the big screen.
A brilliant day of local history, culture and real-world learning, all on our doorstep.
