They reached the final on the back of winning every match in the regular season. Alexandra were missing a number of players through unavailability and started the game slowly, giving Claremont a number of opportunities to open the scoring. Kicking up the hill and into the wind, Alexandra tried to play good football but were over ran by a determined Claremont side. Dougie Bick was called into action on a number of occasions and a combination of inaccurate shooting and resolute defending ensured that no goals were conceded in the first half.
Alexandra grew into the game and following good play from Charlie Ryan and Roman Nadiri, Sonny Tyrrell finished calmly from close range. Claremont continued to press and create some good chances however, the Alexandra defence stood firm and got into halftime one goal to the good.
The second half saw Alexandra play with more confidence and kicking down the slope helped them be on the front foot. Alexandra were rewarded for having a high line and the build-up in pressure told when Nadiri powered a header in from a corner. A series of further chances went missing, twice rattling the woodwork. In a continued period of dominance Tyrrel made sure with an excellent goal, volleying from outside the box. Claremont found some rhythm and a fine strike from outside the box reduced the deficit, but good defending and possession enable Alexandra to hold onto the win.
