Forty-seven Year 9 students from Ark Alexandra Academy have successfully completed their assessed Bronze Duke of Edinburgh expedition, demonstrating resilience, teamwork and determination across two days in the Wealden countryside.
The expedition took place during the week before half term and saw students put into practice the skills they had developed through their training. After collecting their equipment and receiving their final briefing, teams set off at 15-minute intervals to begin their routes.
Each group was easily recognisable by their brightly coloured rucksack covers as they navigated the beautiful Wealden landscape. Favourable weather conditions, including light winds and dry skies, provided ideal circumstances for the expedition.
Throughout the journey, groups met assessors at designated checkpoints, where they demonstrated their navigation, teamwork and expedition skills. By the end of the first day, all teams had successfully completed their planned routes before setting up camp, preparing meals and settling in for the evening.
On the second day, students continued their journeys with enthusiasm and determination, successfully completing the final stage of the assessment.
All 47 students passed the expedition, a fantastic achievement that reflects their preparation, perseverance and positive attitude throughout the challenge. Many participants have already expressed an interest in progressing to the Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award next year.
The expedition provided an excellent opportunity for students to develop independence, confidence and leadership skills while enjoying the challenges and rewards of outdoor learning.
