Following a generous donation of Cornish sole from Fish Heroes – Food Teacher’s Centre UK programme, Ark Alexandra Year 10 Hospitality and Catering students stepped into the world of professional cookery, taking part in a hands-on kitchen experience alongside the academy's Catering Manager, Mr Rogers.
Working in a professional kitchen environment, students learned a range of advanced culinary techniques, including how to fillet flat fish, roast fish whole, remove fillets from the bone and present dishes to a high standard.
The session gave students valuable insight into the skills, precision and attention to detail required in the hospitality industry, while also supporting their studies and future career aspirations.
After preparing and cooking their dishes, students had the opportunity to taste the results of their hard work and were delighted with what they had achieved.
To extend the learning beyond the classroom, each student was given a fish and recipe to take home and recreate the dish for their families, allowing them to practise their newly acquired skills and share their experience with others.
The experience proved both educational and inspiring, helping students develop their practical skills and confidence in the kitchen.
A special thank you goes to Mr Rogers for sharing his expertise and providing such a memorable learning opportunity for our aspiring chefs.
