Year 9 D of E students kicked off a busy D of E season by successfully completing their Bronze Expedition assessment weekend. 30 students walked around the Wealden area enjoying the views of Cranbrook, Goudhurst, Bedgebury, and Bodiam.
After months of preparation, the students successfully navigated around their planned routes, while having to read a map, cook their meals, erect their tents, and ensure that everything they did was safe. After a slow start, all the groups reached their checkpoints on time, mostly smiling but all having put their training into practice.
For one student the weekend had a further pleasant surprise, being her birthday the supervising staff brought her a Colin the Caterpillar birthday cake which she shared with the walking group.
All students passed and have said they will be attempting the Silver Award next year.
