Our Year 8 students have demonstrated impressive creativity and technical skill this term through their latest Design and Technology project, creating a collection of unique 3D clocks inspired by the bold and colourful Memphis design movement.
As part of the project, Year 8 students were challenged to design and manufacture their own acrylic clocks from concept through to completion, combining creative thinking with practical making skills.
Students began by developing their own original Memphis-inspired concepts before transferring their ideas into a 2D CAD (computer-aided design) programme. Their designs were then precision laser cut from acrylic plastic.
To bring their creations to life, students selected their own former shapes to mould a three-dimensional edge, carefully drilled holes for the clock mechanism, assembled the final product and added personalised vinyl details to enhance the finished design.
The completed clocks showcased an impressive range of individuality, imagination and attention to detail, with every student producing something distinctive and unique.
The project gave students valuable experience in design, digital technology, manufacturing processes and product development while encouraging them to think creatively and solve problems independently.
Ms Hawes, Head of Art and Design, said: “Well done to Year 8 for producing such an outstanding collection of work and embracing the challenge with enthusiasm, creativity and originality. The quality and individuality shown in the final outcomes have been fantastic to see, and students should be really proud of what they have achieved.”
