Eighteen students (pictured) from the William Parker Year 10 GCSE PE class took on the role of Sports Leaders.
Words can hardly capture how professional, confident, and successful they were. With only a brief training session beforehand, they took full control of the athletics events—managing the track start and finish, vortex howler, and long jump with impressive competence.
The feedback from event staff, primary school staff, and parents was overwhelmingly positive. Comments praised the students’ attire, communication, and conduct with the children. In all my years working with Sports Leaders, I have never seen a group entrusted with such responsibility deliver to such a high standard. They made the academy, the PE department, their pastoral team, and Ark as a whole incredibly proud.
The impact of their performance is already being felt across the area:
- Our students have been invited to assist at Primary Town Sports next Wednesday—the largest primary athletics event in the region!
- Several primary schools have expressed interest in having our academy provide Sports Leaders for their future events.
- Event organisers are eager to return, using both our facilities and our Sports Leaders for upcoming competitions.
