Why do we learn physical education?
In Physical Education, we aim to encourage students to experience and learn a range of skills and participate in a variety of different sports and activities. Fundamentally, we want students to enjoy physical activity and understand its range of benefits, so that they continue to pursue a healthy and active lifestyle when they leave Ark Alexandra. Alongside this, we want to enable students who have a passion for sport, and the potential, to excel.

Our approach
In PE lessons, students will develop their physical and social skills, so they have the inner confidence, faith and self-belief to engage in physical activity as a lifestyle choice as either a recreational participant, a performer, or an elite athlete. This choice will enable students to live a healthy active lifestyle which will enable them to excel across the curriculum with a healthy body and a healthy mind.
PE also enables students to learn the skills, concepts and theories needed to achieve excellence in the academic PE courses that we offer, allowing them to pursue a career in PE and Sport. Within the examination PE courses (CNAT & GCSE) students are challenged both physically and intellectually. Students dive deep into the physiological, psychological, and social-cultural elements of sport and physical activity.
There are hurdles to overcome in sport, just as in life. Through PE, students will learn resilience and how to overcome challenges, striving to develop skills and rise in difficult situations.
Core P.E.
During their time with us students will study a variety of activities, including Invasion Games (Football / Netball / Hockey / Rugby / Basketball), Net Games (Badminton / Table Tennis / Volleyball), Gymnastics, Dance, Athletics (Indoor and Outdoor), Striking and Fielding Games (Rounders / Stoolball / Cricket) and fitness-based activities.
Students will learn to be humble in victory and gracious in defeat, as well as striving to produce their personal best.
We hope that the experiences students have during their time with us, will open doors, build lifelong memories, and raise aspirations.
