A select group of cadets from Ark Alexandra Academy were given a unique and prestigious opportunity during the Easter break, attending a rehearsal of the Sovereign’s Parade at the world-renowned Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
The visit offered an extraordinary insight into one of the most significant ceremonial events in the British Army’s training calendar. From the moment of arrival, the importance of the occasion was clear, with enhanced security measures in place throughout the academy grounds—reflecting the scale and prestige of the event.
The cadets were warmly welcomed by an Army officer in full ceremonial uniform, complete with sword, who took time to speak with them and answer questions. The group was then guided through the historic academy grounds, passing accommodation and training facilities before arriving at the striking main building.
Particular interest was drawn to the academy’s historic features, including its iconic cannons from the Battle of Waterloo and the impressive, stepped entrance—powerful reminders of the institution’s deep-rooted military heritage.
The highlight of the visit was observing the full rehearsal of the Sovereign’s Parade. Accompanied by military music, the event marked the passing out of approximately 400 officer cadets following 44 weeks of rigorous training, before they take up roles across the British Army. The precision, discipline, and professionalism on display left a lasting impression on all in attendance.
The rehearsal concluded with a dramatic and memorable moment as the Commandant, mounted on horseback, ascended the steps of the main building and disappeared through its grand entrance—bringing the ceremony to a fitting close.
This rare and privileged experience provided cadets with valuable insight into military leadership, tradition, and excellence. It was an inspiring visit that will remain with them for years to come.
